Our first few sessions will focus on understanding you and your story: who you are, what’s important to you, and what brings you to therapy. I will ask you questions about your presenting problems or symptoms, family background, relationships and social support, medical history, and treatment goals. I will listen to you with openness and acceptance, and without judgment.
Once I have a full history, we will work together to develop a personalized treatment plan. My approach to psychotherapy is evidence-based and integrative. This means that I use psychological therapies that are supported by scientific research, and I implement them according to your unique needs and goals. My approach is strongly influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy. I also draw from other evidence-based therapies and clinical orientations as needed.
Although the specifics of our work together will vary based on your needs and personal circumstances, the overall aim of our work together will be to help you live life more in the present, distracted less by painful thoughts and feelings, and focused more on values and goals that are important to you.
