Clergy Consultation

Clergy from all traditions provide comfort and guidance for their congregants, yet they also experience the same struggles and difficulties in life as their congregants. Like everyone, clergy are vulnerable to depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, and other physical and mental health concerns.

Additionally, clergy experience occupational stressors unique to the ministry:

  • Loneliness and isolation
  • Emotional exhaustion and compassion fatigue
  • Challenging congregational demands and interactions
  • Complicated multiple relationships and boundary ambiguity
  • Time pressures and expectations of always being “on-call”
  • Difficulties maintaining personal and family boundaries
  • Low or limited financial compensation
  • Relocation stress

The health and wellness of clergy is important not only for clergy members and their families, but also for the well-being of their congregations. Healthy clergy promote healthy congregations.

I provide faith-affirmative and spiritually-sensitive psychological services for clergy and seminary students. This includes psychological assessment (personality, strengths, and quality of life assessments) and psychotherapy to help clergy cope with the unique challenges of their ministry and pursue health and wellness in all areas of their lives.
